From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On Tuesday June 20, 2023, at 09:15 in ktpa, mishap aircraft #1 (ma#1) was being towed to gate c-xx. Mishap aircraft #2 (ma#2), was parked at a hardstand (a-x) located directly behind gate c-xx. The tug driver followed the lead in line for gate c-xx and while passing the parked ma#2, the wingtip of ma#1 contacted the right wingtip of ma#2 damaging both aircraft.

Causal factors:

The airport authority created the hardstand parking behind gate c-xx and failed to change the location of the lead in lines. The current lead in lines do not provide adequate spacing to park an aircraft at c-xx with an aircraft parked at a-x. in addition, the business partners and company pilots were aware of the hazard but failed to escalate their concerns.

Corrective actions:

Parking in a-x is no longer authorized when an aircraft is parked at gate c-xx.

As the FAA filed it
