From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot was performing touch and goes at Kahului Airport. During sixth approach, aircraft lost engine power at approximately 500 feet and 1 mile from the runway. Aircraft landed in sand in the kanaha pond state wildlife sanctuary. Damage assessment is still underway. Initial damage appears limited to nose landing gear, top of vertical stab, and rudder. Further inspection identified that the damage was transferred down through the stab into the tail fuselage causing crumpling on the bottom of the tail raising this to substantial damage and an accident.
