The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On January 2, 2024, at approximately 1030 MST, an experimental RV-6, single engine airplane, had a hard landing accident at 0E0 (Moriarty airport), Moriarty, NM. The pilot was on a personal flight from moriarity airport (0E0). No flight plan was filed. The aircraft substained substansial damage. The private pilot incurred minor injuries. The flight originated at moriarity airport (0E0) on January 2, 2024, at 1030 MST.
The pilot stated on the NTSB report, "engine start and pre-flight checks were normal. Taxied approximately 2NM to runway 35 for take-off. Engine run-up was normal (1200 RPM + OR-10 RPM between mags). Taxied on to runway 35 at approximately 1000 local time and took off. At approximately 100' (eye witness EST.) The engine started running rough and lost power. As it appears there was not enough rwy remaining to land and obstaculs were straight ahead. I landed hard on the grass to the right of the runway. After landing I turned off all electrical switchs and fuel switchs. No fire or fuel system breach. Exited the aircraft normaly".
The weather at the airport was not a factor.
The cause of the loss of power was not determined.
