From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On may 02, 2024, a Cessna 172 privacy data omitted, operated as a 14 CFR part 141 flight encountered a microburst on the ground while holding short of runway 20R awaiting departure. Tower reported METAR data of winds from 210 gusting 48 with half mile and thunderstorms, lightning distant se, peak winds 160 at 48. The aircraft was flipped over onto its tail and came to rest upside down. Substantial damage was sustained to the airframe. The vertical tail was crushed, the left wing was bent at a downward angle with the wing strut bent inward. The left wing flap assembly was crushed with a chord-wise cut, likely due to landing on a taxi way sign. The propeller tips were bent inwards correlating to a prop strike with the engine producing power. The propeller nose cone was bent upwards.

The PIC was responsive, however, no response was received from the student pilot. No injuries were reported to the flight instructor or student pilot.
