From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilots statement - during a training flight involving from kfxe to 2IS craig steel (instructor) and I (PIC and plane privacy data omitted) landed at 2IS. We immediately taxied back to the runway and took off to depart back to kfxe.

During the climb on R18, at approximately 600 feet, we lost electrical power for the electrical displays/instruments and other parts of the plane. There was no prior warning of excessively hight or low voltage or amps.

The engine remained running.

The landing gear is electronically activated. My instructed told me to lower the gear immediately. I used the landing gear lever. We visually verified that the gear was down but did not have the green light that gear down, due to what we assumed was the electrical power outage.

We immediately went around and approached to land. On landing the right main gear collapsed and we veered off the runway to the right side on to the grass.

Damage to the plane was limited to a bent right stabilizer. Engine and prop were not damaged.
