From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

At approximately 11:00 a m , J-3 cub privacy data omitted pilot and one passenger taking off to south michael flying. Airplane came up on main gear while moving down runway. Aircraft made an abrupt left turn off runway presumably from p factor. I could not recover with right rudder. I was able to stop left turn but aircraft heading toward PAPI lights. Lights are about 15’ off runway and approximately 2’ high. I pulled aircraft off ground to avoid lights but left gear contacted lights further pulling aircraft to the left towards hangars. I took evasive action of rudder and elevators and successfully avoided hangar by approximately 30 – 40’. This action stalled the aircraft and came to rest about 40 ‘ from hangar. No injuries.
