From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 8/15/24 privacy data omitted flew privacy data omitted to wjf with one passenger, a pilot who's familiar with the cozy experimental aircraft, who's been helping privacy data omitted with the familiarization of privacy data omitted apparently on downwind (mid-field), privacy data omitted attempted to lower the nose gear by selecting the gear-down position on the nose-gear switch. He can't remember if he saw the green light (down & locked) illuminated. He felt he got somewhat distracted by a conversation with the passenger on best practice.

privacy data omitted Didn't confirm nose gear position on base leg and on final leg. He only realized that the gear failed to extend and lock during landing when he lowered the nose.

After landing the aircraft has been inspected by a local A&P mechanic at wjf who discovered a loose wire (gear limit) which might have caused the gear failure.
