What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On 09/09/2025 a non-rated pilot was practicing short hop takeoffs and landings on the runway at the Hancock Lewis airport (KY8) in logansport, KY, in a kolb firefly ultralight unregistered part 103 aircraft. After the final takeoff the pilot, the pilot decided to fly the pattern to return for a landing. As he was turning final to the landing runway his engine quit for no apparent reason and would not restart. The pilot did not think he could make the runway so he landed in a field next to the runway with tall grass. On roll out the nose gear hit a ditch which collapsed the landing gear and frame.
