From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 10/03/2024 a PA-28-161 was in cruise flight when the engine failed four miles north of kobe due to the number four cylinder valve cover missing five out of the six attatchment screws. The loose valve cover allowed the rocker shaft to migrate approximately two inches foward and resulted in the exhaust valve rocker assembly becoming disconnected. The pilot made a successful emergency landing which resulted in minor damage to the aircraft and no injuries to the pilot or passenger.
