From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 01/16/2025 at approximately 6:18PM eastern time the CRJ900 aircraft was struck by the deice truck during the de-icing process. The captain reported the aircraft was stationary at the de-ice pad and configured for de-ice/anti-ice when they called for type I and type iv fluid. It was 27°f, calm winds with cloudy skies after dark. The captain stated that de-ice truck driver did not follow communication protocol. The flight crew communicated their request 3 times, and it was 20+ minutes before the procedure began.

Approximately 10 minutes into the de-ice procedure the flight crew felt 2 distinct shutter and shakes of the aircraft with the first being more violent. The captain asked the de-ice truck driver if he hit the aircraft. The de-ice truck driver stated two times that they had not hit the aircraft and that they used higher nozzle pressure which caused the aircraft to shake.

The captain called for de-icing to stop and returned to the gate for maintenance to verify if there was any damage.

The aft flight attendant reported a passenger saw the truck hit the left wing. Passengers were informed why the aircraft was returning to the gate. There were no injuries.

Ramp personnel confirmed that there was damage to the left winglet. After arriving at the gate the de-ice truck bucket operator reported to the flight crew that they discovered the truck had contacted the aircraft.

The 42 passengers were de-planed and in approximately 6 hours and 41 minutes were taken to their destination of detroit, mi (dtw) on another flight. The captain and first officer had required drug tests. Flight attendants continued to dtw with the passengers.

The pilot made all required notifications and wrote up the truck hitting and damaging the left winglet on log #1515497. The maintenance crew dispatched to MDT from dtw verified damage was limited to the left winglet tip fairing and trailing edge fairing. There was no structural damage. This was a minor repair documented on aml#1515497. All training and authorizations were verified as current.
