From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
Airman (CFI) was doing a discovery flight with a student in the left seat. Airman stated steering was ineffective and decided to not continue the planned flight in that aircraft. They taxied to the end of the taxiway to make a left turn onto the runway with the intent to taxi to the next turnoff and return to the ramp. The aircraft would not turn left and departed the taxiway straight ahead into the grass and down a small embankment into a chainlink fence where it came to rest.
There were no injuries. Propeller was damaged. There was no other visible damage.
