From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot's statement:

On approach to runway 29 at kfin standard crosswind technique was applied and touchdown on main wheels was accomplished in a smooth fashion on to slightly left of centerline without any discernible sideloading. Before nose wheel made contact, a very strong gust of wind forced the aircraft to veer hard to right, attempt to recenter aircraft was unsuccessful, but the aircraft had significantly slowed so thought it would be safer to come to stop in grass then apply full power for go around. The area of grass was verified clear of obstacles and transition to grass was smooth where the aircraft safely stopped. Of note, initially when checking ATIS, ~7 knot wind was reported and then after landing high velocity gusts were reported. No injuries. No damage to airport. No damage to aircraft suspected, but plan of action to have aircraft inspected by A&P before return to service. Scheduled to review crosswind landings with CFI. NASA report filed.
