From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On approach to the destination, the pilot elected to switch fuel tanks from right to left. Less than a quarter mile from the runway threshold, the engine quit. The pilot was unable to make it to the runway due to the slow speed and low altitude nature of the approach. The aircraft impacted terrain and came to rest upside down. On examination, it was found the fuel selector was not secured in the detent. Post-accident examination found that the fuel selector was difficult to manipulate and finding the detents was also difficult. The fuel selector functioned as designed.
