From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Event description:

On January 16, 2026, flight from skbo-kjfk was conducted by a training captain (cre) and a captain undergoing initial operating experience (ioe), who was transitioning from the A320 fleet to the B787 as CM1. In addition to the flight deck crew, there were six cabin crew members and 255 passengers on board.

The aircraft landed at jfk on runway 22L at 03:50Z. It vacated via twy j and continued taxiing along the same taxiway until intercepting twy b. once established on twy b, and after receiving authorization from terminal 4 ramp control, the aircraft entered the ramp via twy g en route to the assigned parking stand A3.

At stand A5, an aircraft (B787-9) was parked, fully stationary, without wing-walkers, with beacon lights on, and positioned 5–7 meters outside its final parking guidance line. This non-standard parking condition was neither identified by ground personnel nor reported in a timely manner to ramp control.

After receiving clearance, the crew of the flight proceeded into the ramp following the marked taxi line. However, they did not notice the non-standard position of the other aircraft. Although the CVR recordings show that the pilots discussed traffic on the ramp and the CM1 expressed concerns about the clearance of the left wing, their attention remained focused on the wing-walkers and the visual docking guidance system (vdgs), which did not issue a “stop” indication at any time.

During the final turn toward stand A3, at 22:58:50Z, the left wingtip came into contact with the lower surface of the right horizontal stabilizer of the parked B787-9.
