From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

A Piper PA-28-140 departed kevv in VMC conditions on an instructional flight. Instructor had the student practicing crosswind landings. On the 5th approach and landing, the student corrected for the crosswind with only right rudder (not using alerion). The instructor told the student to add alerion as well. The student overcorrected and the instructor said my controls, but the student did not let go and continued to add left aileron impacting the left-wing tip on the ground. Once the student let go of the controls the instructor conducted a go-around and returned for landing without incident. The post flight inspection of the aircraft determined minor damage to the left wing tip.
