From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

During descent the instructor pilot and student report loss of engine power. The crew restarted engine which sputtered, did not make power and died. Wind gust from adjacent canyon terrain resulted in dimished glide distance forcing the crew to land on a road in a residential area. Video evidence reflects audio of the engine sputtering. Eye witness states the aircraft did not make any sound overhead when they saw it just prior to landing. Hard landing with the aircraft coming to rest inverted. Firefighters on scene took video and report seeing fuel draining from the wing. Instructor sustained severe head injuries. Pending NTSB investigation of aircraft.
