What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
The aircraft lost engine power shortly after departure from the float pond. The pilot subsequently landed in the river, where the aircraft floated into a log jam. The pilot was the sole person on board. No injuries were reported, and the aircraft sustained minor damage.
During the post-incident engine inspection, the no. 1 cylinder compression was measured at 20/80, while the remaining cylinders were below 10 PSI. The oil filter and oil sump were also found to contain metal debris.
The cause of the engine failure was determined to be a supercharger failure. Material from the failed supercharger was ingested and distributed into all cylinders, resulting in the loss of engine power. The pilot statement, maintenance findings, and photographs have been added to the office accident file.
