Analysis
The home built aircraft was on its initial test flight. After completing two takeoff runs successfully, the pilot elected to fly the aircraft around the local pattern. While climbing about 1/4 mile from the runway, the engine began missing. The pilot turned back toward the airport, and at about 200 ft AGL, lost all power. He made an emergency landing in a plowed field, but after rolling about 40 to 50 ft, the plane nosed over and was demolished. The density altitude at the airport was about 3600 ft.
