Analysis

The eng lost power while cruising at 3000 feet. The pilot determined that the engine power loss was due to a restricted fuel line just ahead of the gascolator. A restriction of the inlet port of the gasocalator resulted from electrolytic corrosion of a steel plug in the auxiliary inlet port in the aluminum housing of the gascolator. The corrosion buildup apparently became dislodged clogging the adjacent port. The pilot/builder recommended caution in the use of dissimilar metals in the fuel system.
