Summary
This document proposes the adoption of a new airworthiness directive (AD) that is applicable to certain Boeing Model 747SP series airplanes. This proposal would require modification of the escape slide/raft on Door 2 of the airplane. This proposal is prompted by reports indicating that the escape slide/raft on Door 2 deployed onto the wing of the airplane and did not inflate automatically. The actions specified by the proposed AD are intended to ensure that the escape slide/raft on Door 2 inflates automatically so that passengers are able to exit the airplane through Door 2 in the event of an emergency evacuation.
