What was found

CAME IN FOR PHASE MAINTENANCE, AND THE OPERATOR REQUESTED AN EARLY LANDING GEAR REPLACEMENT. THE LANDING GEAR WAS DUE SOON FOR REPLACEMENT, AND REPRESENTATIVES FROM BERING AIR DECIDED TO HAVE IT CHANGED AHEAD OF SCHEDULE. AFTER INSTALLING NEW MLG ASSEMBLIES (X2) IN THE LEFT AND RIGHT POSITIONS, NEW SQUAT SWITCHES WERE INSTALLED, REQUIRING COMPRESSING AND EXTENDING THE GEAR MULTIPLE TIMES TO ENSURE ACCURATE RIGGING OF THE NEW SQUAT SWITCHES. AFTER THIS ACTION WAS COMPLETED, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE CHROME WAS FLAKING OFF OF THE LEFT MLG STRUT AND THERE WAS DEEP SCORING IN THE RIGHT MLG STRUT. THIS RENDERS THE GEAR UNAIRWORTHY AND APPEARS TO BE DUE TO IMPROPER ASSEMBLY OF THE GEAR. BOTH THE LT & RT OVERHAULED GEAR AND ONE OF THE REPLACEMENT GEAR ALL HAD THE SAME DEFECT ON THE CHROME OF THE GEAR STRUT.
