From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: during descent into sea an evergreen DC-9 experienced a temporarily jammed elevator control. Flight 824 flying from juneau, AK to Seattle, WA was being hand flown and while passing through 16,000 ft. the elevator control jammed until approximately 15 lbs. Forward force was applied to the yoke. It then abruptly became free and functioned normally for the remainder of the flight. On 6/27/96, evergreen maintenance at Seattle performed an inspection of the elevator system i/a/w the DC-9 m/m section 27-30-2, but could not find any faults or duplicate the problem. On 6/29/96, evergreen maintenance at denver performed an inspection of the elevator system due to a problem with the auto-pilot and found that the right actuating cylinder rod end nut was loose. The elevator control system was inspected i/a/w the DC-9 m/m section 27-30-8 and was found to be satisfactory. This investigation is closed.
