From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(.4)The pilot cancelled his VFR flight plan due to heavy weather en route and returned to his departure airport. He used full flaps during the landing because he was high on final approach. Just prior to touchdown a gust of wind pushed the airplane off the left side of the runway. The pilot added full power and raised the flaps to 25 degrees to go-around, but was unable to maintain directional control of the airplane. The airplane continued off the left side of the runway where it impacted trees. The pilot reported winds 300 degrees at 13 knots. (-23) see narrative #CHI96LA238.
