From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on April 18, 1997, at approximately 03:05 pm CDT at San Antonio International Airport. Mr. Frederick a. pillet holder of commercial pilot certificate number 1442480 was the pilot in command of N9224M, a Mooney model 20-E. He departed runway 21, and was observed by a southwest airlines pilot holding short, that he had prematurely retracted the landing gear, and impacted the runway. During the runway inspection parts of his rotating beacon, and four propeller nicks were discovered approximately 1,500 feet from the approach end of runway 21. Mr. Pillet continued the takeoff and proceeded to Stinson field. He was advised by San Antonio tower that parts of his rotation beacon, and propeller nicks were found on the runway. Upon arrival into Stinson field the tower operator advised Mr. Pillet of the findings at San Antonio. During a telephone conversation with Mr. Pillet on may 8, 1997, he exhibited a constructive attitude, and a willingness to comply with any directives that might be placed upon him. His own personal corrective action includes the following: * he will receive additional training on IFR and VFR procedures in his aircraft. * he will enroll in wings program. Based on the aforementioned items, it has been determined that this incident is considered closed.
