From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Aircraft performing airshow, coming out of a descending snap roll, unable to get full elevator response, crashed. (-23) on July 27, 1997, at 271820Z, a sorrell model sns-y, N774HB crashed into trees while being flown in aerobatic routine at Tomahawk regional airport, Tomahawk, WI. The pilot sustained no injuries and the aircraft was destroyed. No passengers were on board. The aircraft was being operated in an airshow flight by the owner, a commercial pilot with an airplane, single engine land rating, under 14 CFR part 91 when the accident occurred. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time. At the end of a snap roll, the pilot experienced a turn to the left and complained of no elevator control. Altitude could not be maintained and, with the engine at full power, the aircraft crashed into trees. Investigation revealed good flight control continuity and no apparent mechanical defects.

As the FAA filed it
