From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: as stated by pilot: "we were practicing stall recognition and recovery at 3000AGL, 14-23 NM south of hnl. We had started to make the recovery from a stick shaker warning and as we increased power from flight idle to max power, the right engine lost power as evidenced by yaw to the right and decreasing torque. There was a loud pop from the right. I was the non-flying pilot (laurie was flying pilot). I completed the engine shutdown checklist, and set flaps to 4 degrees. Then I took the controls because laurie was not trained completely for single engine landing. I had her call approach and declare an emergency and request landing at hnl. The approach and landing were successful without further damage." Investigated incident and found right engine power turbine disintegrated. Cause is unknown. This incident investigation is closed. (Incident #IWP1397021).
