From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
Narrative: the pilot taxied the aircraft to the runway and performed a torque/temperature limiting test (ttl). During the test, the right engine spooled down below normal parameters and would not respond to inputs. During this period, there was a great deal of smoke pouring from the engine. The pilot elected to run an emergency shutdown checklist by fire bottles and evacuation drill. The shutdown and evacuation occurred without incident. Maintenance replaced the defective ttl bypass valve, PN897-457-5, and the engine fire bottles.
