From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on December 28, 1997, at about 1225 PST, Mr. Traver (CFI) was giving multiengine instruction in a PA-44, N2153B. After practicing a left engine out and an abort on runway 29L at the Fresno Yosemite int'l (fat), the student was instructed to continue the takeoff. The aircraft lost directional control and veered off to the left of the runway towards a taxiway sign. Then the CFI took the controls and tried to get the aircraft airborne. The aircraft hit the sign prior to rotation. The aircraft rotated, continued in the pattern and was informed that there was debris on the runway. After doing a fly-by, the aircraft landed without incident. The damage to the aircraft was limited to the left propeller, landing gear, landing gear door and the left flap. No injuries were reported.
