From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(.4)The pilot was attempting a touch and go with three passengers in the airplane. When he rotated for liftoff, he felt the airplane did not feel right and initiated an aborted takeoff. He did not maintain directional control. The airplane exited the runway, traversed a grassy area, a roadway and impacted a ditch. The pilot said that this was the first time he had flown the airplane with three passengers. He also indicated that he had a total time in this make and model of airplane of 2.2 hours. (-23) Mr. Kleppe, private pilot certificate #475741428, was pilot-in-command of aircraft N6771F, a Piper PA-28-151. After landing, while attempting to perform a touch and go landing at the Jefferson Municipal Airport, Jefferson, Iowa, Mr. Kleppe felt that the aircraft did not respond to control inputs properly. He decided to abort and keep the aircraft on the ground. Mr. Kleppe did not have sufficient runway remaining to complete his abort and still remain on the runway. Mr. Kleppe, while applying the brakes, exited the end of the runway, went through a grass over run area, and into a ditch. No one in the aircraft received injuries.
