From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

While parking at gate, marshaler failed to observe instructions from wingwalkers for aircraft to stop. Pilot was on centerline and following marchallers instructions. Marshaler thought aircraft was a stritch DC-8-73, which is longer. This allowed engines on DC-8-62 come closer to ground equipment than would a DC-8-73. Aircraft #2 engine inlet nose cowling leading edge damaged when aircraft hit "k" loader. Nose cowl replaced. Company and contract ground personnel changed procedures to pre-position ground equipment away from aircraft parking spot.
