From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On July 31, 1999, at approx. 0718 am MDT, American airlines flight 1066, a MD-80, aborted takeoff from runway 21 due to the left engine's failure to develop takeoff thrust. Upon return to the gate maintenance determined the bleed valve had stuck preventing full thrust development. The bleed valve freed itself during runup by mechanics and developed full power. Maintenance coordinated for lubrication of the bleed valve upon arrival at dfw. The flight departed without further difficulties. File closed.
