From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On 06-04-2002, daniel hager, a flight instructor candidate, and jose abella, who was Mr. Hager's flight instructor, were practicing touch and go landings on runway nine right at Orlando-Sanford airport, Sanford, Florida. On crosswind, Mr. Abella reduced power to idle in order to simulate an engine failure. Mr. Hager maneuvered the aircraft to land on runway two seven left, but failed to extend the landing gear. Mr. Abella failed to recognize that the landing gear was not extended, and both pilots allowed Cessna 172RG, N5267U, to land gear up. Neither pilot was injured, and the aircraft sustained minor damage.
