From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot departed orifino, ID airport for flight to Montana. Pilot did not fuel prior to departure because no fuel was available due to holiday. Engine began losing power and pilot attempted to land at old Headquarters airstrip at Headquarters, Idaho. First attempt was unsuccessful due to excessive speed and the pilot tried to circle for another approach when the engine quit. The aircraft passed between two trees about 50 feet in the air and sheared off the tops of both trees, traveled about another 200 feet and fell into a clearing. There was no fire because of no fuel. The pilot was taken by helicopter to lewiston hospital and released later the same day. Both passengers were taken to orifino hospital and treated and released. Aircraft was destroyed.
