From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot states it was a gusty wind day. After sighseeing over Drummond Island, pilot decided to land on a bay northeast of the Island, which he had been to numerous times. As pilot descended below the tree line, he experienced buffeting of the wing, followed by a downdraft. He tried to hold the floats off the water, but the right float hit the water rather hard sending the plane into a porpoising motion, veering right toward shore. As he approached the shore, the pilot pulled back on the stick to get the front of the floats up. Aircraft came to rest upside down on the shore. Pilot and passenger departed aircraft with no injuries.

As the FAA filed it

AS HE APPROACHED THE SHORE, THE PILOT PULLED BACK ON THE STICK TO GET THE FRONT OF THE FLOATS UP. AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST UPSIDE DOWN ON THE SHORE.
