From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) According to a neighbor who lived across the street from the accident site, he"...heard the aircraft engine start and then taxi which sounded normal as I have heard this aircraft many times previously. It sounded as if the plane was taking off heading north, toward werstville rd. after takeoff I heard the engine misfire and shutter which caused me to look up. At that point I saw the aircraft in a near vertical dive with the underside facing me. It disappeared behind the trees and I heard the sound of impact. I immediately drove to the scene and found the aircraft upside down leaking fuel with the pilot trapped in the wreckage. I took his pulse - there was none and waited for police to arrive."
