From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On August 4, 2006, a Lancair ivp experienced an engine failure shortly after takeoff. The pilot had just turned for a downwind departure when the engine quit at approximately 800 feet AGL. The pilot made an emergency landing at the Millard, Nebraska airport. The airport is surrounded by houses and the pilot elected to be sure to make the airport instead of setting up a landing at the Millard, Nebraska airport. The airport is surrounded by houses and the pilot elected to be sure to make the airport instead of setting up a landing on the runway and being uncertain as to whether he could make it. The aircraft touched down hard, with the gear down, on the east side of runway 12. The right main gear started to collapse as the aircraft travelled northwest bound across the runway. The nose gear then collapsed and then the aircraft struck a taxiing aircraft on the parallel taxiway, causing substantial damage to the taxiing aircraft. This collision tore the tail of the Lancair off and the aircraft continued sliding on its belly until striking a parking lot fence, where the aircraft came to rest.
