From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot was at cruise altitude of 2500' and reported a loss of power. The engine started running rough and exhibited a severe vibration. Pilot shut the engine down and set up for best glide to a dirt field. On landing, aircraft struck a fence post and sheared the nose gear off, coming to rest in a vertical position on the nose. During inspection of the engine at the scene, noted 6 quarts of oil registered on the dipstick, and the crankshaft rotated freely. Found significant metal contamination in the rocker covers of #2 and #4 cylinders, and the lower spark plugs for those cylinders were full of oil. Confirmation of cause for the engine failure is pending engine teardown inspection.
