From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 11/24/2008, during the initial climb of chqa flight 5570, iah to sdf, the flight attendant (f/a) smelled a strong burning odor in the cabin. She checked the forward galley for the source of the smell. She identified the odor was coming from the galley wall gasper vent. The aft passengers, a/c right, were informing her of a heavy smoke odor and a white fog. It appeared to be coming from under the passenger seats. The f/a checked for visible signs of fire in the cabin and lavatory. The f/a notified the flight deck of the odor and location of the smoke. The captain and first officer also smelled the odor through the gasper vents in the flight deck. The captain declared an emergency and breified the f/a to prepare the cabin for emergency landing and an evacuation on the runway. The f/a indicated that it took approximately 4 minutes to prepare the passengers and cabin. The flight returned to iah where it landed without incident. The captain commanded the emergency evacuation once stopped on the runway. Although both forward exits were opened by the f/a, conditions inside the a/c allowed all passengers to exit through the main cabin airstair door in approximately 1 minute without injury.

As the FAA filed it
