From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The pilot and sole occupant of the airccraft took off on a local VFR flight from runway 26 at Gardner Municipal Airport (K34) in Gardner, Kansas. On his initial takeoff and climb, at approximately 300 feet AGL, the engine lost power. He attempted to turn and land on runway 17 (turf), but landed in a hay field adjacent to the runway, striking a row of round hay bales. At touchdown the main gear collapsed and the aircraft slid to a stop immediately west of runway 17.
