From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot reports seeing other aircraft (N2FD) circling on the water, and does not make a radio call for takeoff due to inoperative equipment. Pilot clears the departure path visually and initiates a normal takeoff and climbout. N9699P climbs out and makes a slight left hand turn; subsequently impacting the other PA-18, N2FD, from behind and below. Impact damage on N2FD indicates that the propeller of N9699P destroyed the right wing on N2FD, including and in entirety, the right aileron and right flap.

As the FAA filed it
