From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The aircraft engine power went to idle uncommanded. No engine roughness was noted prior to power going to idle. The pilot attempted but was unable to land at the nearest airport. The aircraft impacted the ground in a field approxamately 1 mile southwest of the airport. An interview with the pilot indicates that he took off with approximately 20-22 gallons of fuel onboard and a deputy sheriff report indicates that fuel was leaking at the scene. Examination of the scene also indicated that a small amount of fuel remained in each tank.
