What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
Pilot had just departed sux airport and was climbing out northwest bound, when he called the tower and advised he was returning for landing, due to rough running engine. Aircraft was cleared for straight-in approach to runway 13. Pilot then called and advised he would probably "dead stick" the landing. Aircraft landed short of runway 13, causing substantial damage. There was no injury. Pilot's statement on 06/14/2011 indicated pilot had not gotten the gascolator gasket seated properly during the condition inspection. This had caused the gasket to partially slip into the bowl, and the engine sucked air into the system and quit. Pilot was counseled by airworhtiness inspector regarding pilot's statement about installation of gascolator gasket.
