From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The pilot flew through a column of smoke from a forest fire that he was working for the U.S. Forest service. He encountered several severe bumps of turbulence. He hit his head on the ceiling of the aircraft that caused a small cut. After he encountered the turbulence the pilot noticed that he had to hold the control yoke with about 30 degrees of right aileron to maintain level flight. He returned to the ellensburg Washington airport and landed without incident. After the flight it was discovered the left aileron connecting rod had failed.
