From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 02/21/2013, N613TX, a Lancair Evolution, was conducting touch and go takeoffs and landings at the Eagle Creek Airpark (eye) in Indianapolis, IN. On the third approach, the pilot in command and a Lancair program pilot insturctor, reported a problem with the landing gear that appeared to resolve itself after cycling the landing gear handle several times. Satisfied, they continued on. On a subsequent approach, while simulating a flap malfunction, the aircraft landed with the landing gear retracted, damaging the airframe and propeller. Both pilots stated they were concentrating on the approach and did not notice, after selecting the landing gear lever to the 'down' position, whether or not there were three, illuminated landing gear 'down and locked' indicators.

On March 5, 2013, operational checks of the landing gear system and the landing gear aural warning system determined the landing gear retracted and extended correctly and the landing gear aural warning system functioned correctly.

As the FAA filed it
