From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

When on final approach the pilot noted that he was about 95 mph and was sinking too fast so he added power and pitched the the nose up to reduce airspeed. The engine made a muffeled pop noise and he added full throttle. The engine power did not respond quick enough to arrest the descent and the pilot had to maintain flying speed , so he accepted the touch down short of the intended landing zone. The airplane landed on a 4 foot fence on the south side of herndon avenue and slid to a stop on the north side of herndon avenue. No injury or vehicular damage.

Slight fuel leak developed. No fire. Inspection of the aircraft engine and propeller indicated that the engine was making power at the time of impact.
