What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On August 25, 2014, at approximately 1320 local (1820 UTC), the airman, holder of a private pilot certificate with airplane single engine land class rating was involved in an aircraft incident while landing at the Manhattan Regional Airport (kmhk), Manhattan, Kansas.
The aircraft departed from bloomfield Iowa (4K6) on a visual flight rules (VFR) flight enroute to kmhk; visual meteorological conditions (VMC) prevailed at the time of the incident with conditions at kmhk reported as winds from 060 degrees at 08 knots, visibility 10 statute miles, and clear skies.
During the approach and landing phase to runway 21 at kmhk, the airman failed to extend the aircraft?s landing gear prior to touchdown. The aircraft subsequently touched-down on runway 21 and skid to a stop, resulting in minor damage to the aircraft.
The airman, who was the sole occupant on-board the aircraft, reported no injuries.
Post-incident inspection of the aircraft revealed minor damage was sustained to the bottom of the fuselage and nose gear door. The aircraft?s propellor blades were damaged upon touchdown as a result of the gear-up landing. No additional damage was noted. The post-incident inspection did not reveal any landing gear system anomaly that would have contributed to the gear-up landing; upon recovery, the aircraft?s landing gear was extended via the normal extension method.
The airman provided a written statement indicating that he failed to extend the landing gear before landing.
As the FAA filed it
ON AUGUST 25, 2014, AT APPROXIMATELY 1320 LOCAL (1820 UTC), THE AIRMAN, HOLDER OF A PRIVATE PILOT CERTIFICATE WITH AIRPLANE SINGLE ENGINE LAND CLASS RATING WAS INVOLVED IN AN AIRCRAFT INCIDENT WHILE LANDING AT THE MANHATTAN REGIONAL AIRPORT (KMHK), MANHATTAN, KANSAS.
