From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The pilot was on final approach to Chino Airport (cno). The pilot established a 100 foot descent rate and noticed the engine RPM was slightly above 2900 rpm's. the pilot reduced the throttle slightly to bring the engine rpm's back to 2900 RPM and keep the descent rate. The pilot observed the manifold pressure to be approximately 10 inches hg and then heard a sound louder than normal from the engine. The pilot observed the engine rpms to be 3300 to 3500 RPM. To reduce the RPM and avoid reducing the manifold pressure the pilot raised the collective. The engine RPM remained high and descent rate increased. Pilot realzed he would not make it back to the airport and radioed Chino tower that he was going to land north of the airport. The aircraft made a hard landing and sustained substantial damage.

As the FAA filed it
