On March 10, 2018 at 1730 eastern time, a lear 31 aircraft, N500MP, registered to a corporation and operated by an airline transport pilot, received substantial damage when it struck 2 deer during landing rollout on runway 27 mount Pleasant municipal airport (kmop), mount Pleasant, Michigan. Daylight visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident. The personal flight was being conducted under the provisions of title 14 code of federal regulations (CFR) part 91 under an instrument flight rules flight plan. The two crew members and five passengers were uninjured. The flight originated from the ulysses airport (kuls), ulysses, Kansas.
According to the pilot during landing rollout with full flaps and spoilers deployed, they viewed for a split second, a deer moving from their left side to the right just prior to impact. The pilot estimated aircraft speed to have been 80 knots at the time they heard a thump. The crew stated at no time did they lose directional control of the aircraft and the landing roll was completed safely. They taxied to the parking ramp and shut-down normally. Once the crew inspected the aircraft it was discovered that two deer had been struck. The left wing leading edge near the stall fence was crumpled rearward approximately 6 inches and the underside of the left flap had been dented in a number of places. The second deer was struck by the nose wheel then rolled-up under the right wing impacting the wing flap causing the top flap skin to buckle near the trailing edge. Investigation revealed no signs of debris ingestion to either engine. The crew notified saginaw air traffic control and airport management of the accident then assisted in removal of debris from the runway.
Weather report at kmop airport at 2335Z: winds calm, visibility 10 statute miles, scattered clouds, temperature 4C. And altimeter 30.09.
