What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
The pilot was attempting to take off from a private grass runway with an aircraft/engine combination he was unfamiliar with. The pilot stated that he failed to add enough power before reaching the end of the runway. The aircraft became airborne, but when terrain dropped off into a canyon at the end of the runway, ground effect was lost, and the aircraft decended into a ravine. The aircraft came to rest at the bottom of the ravine suffering substantial damage.
