From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

A passenger's laptop caught fire at seat 4B. Smoke filled some of the first-class cabin and beginning of economy rows. Flight attendants placed the laptop in a containment bag. Pilots performed the “smoke fire fumes” quick reference procedure. An emergency was declared and the aircraft diverted to Casper, WY (cpr).

One elderly passenger injury was reported resulting from inhalation of laptop smoke. The passenger was treated by emergency medical services (EMS) and transported to the hospital.

Injuries of the elderly passenger are unknown as family members will not release any medical information to united airlines, or FAA.
